Fiesta Time!

"I'd like our wedding to fuse four cultures together" My first meeting with Katya was a memorable one! Katya is of German & Scottish descent and her fiance's family hails from South America so her wedding was to be a multicultural affair with lots of colour, patterns & flowers in the heart of Derbyshire.

Taking inspiration from her geometric invitations, the colours in her flowers, the vibrancy of the table runners and the opulence of the dresses, I designed a truly unique & bespoke wedding cake.

Katya wanted the cake to have a predominantly Mexican feel tying together the South American geometric patterns and use of gold with the classic floral designs of a typical Mexican wedding cake. I hand cut pieces of coloured sugar paste to create the geometric pattern on the bottom & top tiers which I finished with accents of gold. I hand painted the middle tier with a free-hand design of beautiful blooms which I then embellished with 3D sugar paste flowers to bring the cake to life. The flowers spilled over onto the top & bottom tiers to link the cakes together.

I love this close up that wedding photographer Simon Dewey captured.

Inside, the bottom tier was a chocolate cake with salted caramel butter-cream, the middle tier was a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and the top tier was a classic Victoria sponge with home-made raspberry jam.

Katya & Alfonso got married at The Izaak Walton Hotel in the heart of Dovedale with the breathtaking Thorpe Cloud as their backdrop. Truly stunning Derbyshire scenery for all the overseas guests. Unfortunately, the weather didn't play ball and rained for most of the day but determined not to be outdone by the British climate, the umbrellas came out and they went ahead with their wedding in the rain. Love it!
